degens Posted July 9, 2007 Report Posted July 9, 2007 Hi, my wife has been complaining about poor running on her 2001 Galaxy 1.9TDi. First thing on a morning she sets off and it is fine. As the car warms up it starts to judder (like a misfire) and runs awful with no acceleration. If she pulls over, swtiches off and back on again it continues to run fine. It also doesn't do it again all day, even if stood while she is at work. I tried unplugging the MAF sensor (cos it seems to be mentioned a lot) before setting off yesterday but it was running awful straight away, even without waiting to get warm. So I don't think it is related to that. Any ideas would be helpful as I am supposed to be pulling the caravan on holiday on Saturday. I did try the ford garage but they wanted Quote
jimjamjo Posted July 9, 2007 Report Posted July 9, 2007 (edited) Could be the limp home kicking in due to a fault code. I'm selling a fault code reader for Edited July 9, 2007 by jimjamjo Quote
turk90210 Posted July 9, 2007 Report Posted July 9, 2007 from the description you give ""swtiches off and back on again it continues to run fine"" indicates as previously said "limp home mode"This however can be caused by a few different things and a scan will be the only sure way to tell you what is causing it until then it is pure guess workTurbo overboost is a problem which crops up regular and can be the vnt turbo vanes sticking (common reported fault)Im sure there are a few of us which could give you more faults as to what it could be but as I have said it is at this stage purely guess workIf you updated your profile or tell us what area you live maybe someone could scan it for you if they were close by Quote
degens Posted July 11, 2007 Author Report Posted July 11, 2007 Thanks both of you. I have ordered a cable from E-bay (hope I have the right one - got the one for Volkswagon) and downloaded some software so hopefully I will soon know what the problem is. Cheers Phil. Quote
jkspoff Posted July 11, 2007 Report Posted July 11, 2007 It might sound obvious, but have you tried disconnecting the battery and resetting the ECU, this has worked in the past with similar faults. Quote
tim-spam Posted July 11, 2007 Report Posted July 11, 2007 When you connect VAGCOM, I bet your fault code will be: 17965 - Charge Pressure Control: Positive Deviation P1557 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent The cause is most likely to be a sticking VNT - plenty of information on here about how to fix the problem. The only thing that puzzles me is the judder you mention - normally the engine runs smoothly in limp mode, but with very little power. Quote
degens Posted July 23, 2007 Author Report Posted July 23, 2007 Thanks for all the suggestions - i got my cable and plugged in to see the following faults 18074 - Valve for Pump-Jet: Cylinder 1 (N240): Electrical Malfunction P1666 - 35-00 - -16685 - Shareware Version. To Decode all DTCs P0301 - 35-00 - Please Register/Activate I then cleared and ran the car and only got the one below re-occuring. 18074 - Valve for Pump-Jet: Cylinder 1 (N240): Electrical Malfunction P1666 - 35-00 - - I checked the wiring to the injector which looked okay but took it off and cleaned it a bit. Cleared the faults again and haven't had a problem again since (1 week ago). Well worth the 16 quid for the cable from E-bay - rather than the 88 quid Ford wanted just to read them. Going to get a cable for my MG ZT now ! Quote
richaber Posted August 2, 2007 Report Posted August 2, 2007 Just to add to this, we have a Mk1 1.9tdi and I'm sure there is a bad connection issue in the multiplug on or around the injector pump. We have just had the low power thing, i was driving along and it was if i had lifted my foot halfway off the throttle. After a previous episode like this I wiggled everything round the injector pump, started her up and back to normal again. Haven't had a chance to have a proper look yet. Quote
